What are the Visioning Workshops?
Visioning looks far into the future, asking what we want Southampton be in 10 to 20 years.

The Visioning Workshops are dynamic public meetings in which community members will discuss basic values and goals for the future of Southampton, as well as major issues that will affect the town’s future. The purpose of vision development is to describe the future based on shared community values. These shared values and common goals will be incorporated into the town’s comprehensive Master Plan and will guide future town decision-making processes.
What should I expect?
The Visioning Workshops offer an opportunity for the community to come together to discuss the future of Southampton. Throughout the workshops, there will be short presentations that share information about specific topics, as well as results from the stakeholder interviews, community survey, and previous visioning sessions. However, the majority of the Visioning Workshops will be spent in small group discussions about specific topics that are important to the future of Southampton. A visioning workshop is a dynamic meeting format that combines fun and hard work. Expect lots of information and challenging conversation. Also, food will be provided at all workshops.
Do I Need to attend all three days?
We encourage residents to participate all three days, as each day will build on the previous session and will cover different topics. However, while residents are encouraged to attend as many of the sessions as possible, we understand that it will not be possible for all participants to attend all three visioning sessions.
What else do I need to know?
You may want to familiarize yourself with the Master Plan process. Explore this website for more information. Also, see our Documents page for more information, especially as the Visioning Workshops approach.
Do I need to prepare?
No. However, we strongly encourage you to take the community survey. Also, keep an eye on our Documents page for more information as the date approaches.
Can you explain how the schedule will work?
The purpose of the first day, Opening Night & Visioning, is to convey basic information about the Master Plan process, to discuss general issues, and to hold a visioning exercise to discuss the future of the town. On the second day, Major Topics & Geographic Breakdown, there will be more detailed discussions about groups of related topics (e.g. land use, transportation and housing) in the morning, followed by discussions about different specific parts of town in the afternoon. Discussions will result in goals for each topic area and possible strategies to achieve these goals. For the geographic breakdown, discussions will characterize major issues and opportunities for different areas/neighborhoods of town.

Finally, on the third day, Closing Presentation, Alternative Growth Scenarios & Key Areas, a summary of results from the previous sessions will be presented, and the workshops will conclude with a discussion of alternative growth scenarios for the town and a design exercise to help visualize how residents want key parts of the town to look and function in the future.
